How to Enter a Dressage Show

Here's a couple quick secrets to enter a dressage show that will help you get it right.
#1 READ THE WHOLE PRIZE LIST! This means all of it. The information is there for you to use in all aspects of the show.
#2 Make sure you have the right entry form for the right show!  I have had people enter a show on my jumper forms, this is because THEY ARE NOT READING!!
#3 Fill out ALL the information, #ID numbers, memberships numbers, current and correct address including zip codes. We use this information to send you other prize lists!
#4 Make sure you mail your entry to the RIGHT PLACE! We have had to turn people away because they did not read the prize list and assumed that their entry was to go to Canterbury because the show was at Canterbury. Not so. Other management companies need you to send to their secretaries! It is not their fault you did not get in because you did not READ THE PRIZE LIST! (RTPL)
#5 Remember to include your check!- You are not registered without payment!
#6 Remember a copy of your Coggins!
#7 Print legibly, if you don't want your horses name to appear as Doofusmeister in the program then write so we can read it.
#8 Make sure you entered the correct classes, it's very often hard for the schedule to be shifted around if you meant to enter Third Level and put Training Level. (you'd be surprised . . . )
#9 Make sure your entry is either in the mail by the postmarked date as per instructions OR in the office by said date as per instructions. It can differ with each organization. RTPL
#10 If your entry is a 2 sided one make sure you sign and date the 3 areas required on the back so you don't hold up the line at check in doing so.
That should do it for entering. Follow these simple steps and you should be good to go.

Here are some tips once you get there.
#1 Check the stabling chart it's usually out front so you know where to go.
#2 If you didn't do any of the aforementioned items, make sure you bring those things needed to the show office when you check in, it will really stink if you waited in line after 5 other people and don't have your membership cards to show. You can't get your packet until everything is right!
#3 Be nice to the secretary, she wields a powerful force in scheduling and stabling matters, piss her off, you might be riding at 6:45 am.
#4 Park in the appropriate area, use the designated warm up and correct lunging areas.
#5 Be considerate of your fellow rookie dressage people, they are here to have fun, learn, get scores, try to qualify, etc. everyone was a newbie once even Michael Poulin!
#6 Keep your dogs on a leash, nothing worse then little jack yapping at someone's heels during tempi changes!
#7 If you are using an extra stall, paddock or RV spot make sure you PAY FOR IT! If you don't you are STEALING and might face an embarrassing situation, we check.
Hopefully you have gained valuable insight to ensure a good experience at your dressage show.

When its time to leave
#1 Clean up after yourself, check your stalls for items left, check the outer parts of your rig for things left on it. Make sure horses are secure and doors locked.
#2 Drive safe we want you to come back healthy and happy!
